Trim Radius changes arc into spline

Trim Radius changes arc into spline

Trim Radius changes arc into spline

(OP)
NX 11.0.1.11 MP1

Hi,
trim curves between 2 circles changes one part of the arc into a spline.
I hope the uploaded file can be viewed, it is the red curve, converted from an arc to a spline. I tried different things with different curves and it seems odd, but it is always the left portion of the arc which is converted.
Does anyone have the same problem, and how do you work around the issue?

Thanks a lot in advance.

RE: Trim Radius changes arc into spline

Is this in a sketch or with basic curves? Also what curves are you trimming, I cannot tell from your image file.

This is not a sketch, I'm have two full circles with two tangent lines and I'm trying to trim away the green and the blue portion. After the trim the red curve turn out as an arc.

RE: Trim Radius changes arc into spline

I'm not sure exactly, that seems odd. Just curious, why do you need to do that. Also why are you not doing it in a sketch. If you are extruding this shape, you do not need to trim the curves and you can just select the curves you want. Leaving the full circles intact is a better reference-driven style of modeling in my opinion as you can see the full circle edges in case you need them.

I will experiment and hopefully get back to you if I see the same behavior on my end.

I just recreated what you describe in 7.5 and it behaves just as you describe. I tried several combinations of settings, but it had no effect on the outcome.

RE: Trim Radius changes arc into spline

OK.

I think I figured it out. This only happens when the center point of the circle is located on a CSYS origin point. If the circle is created about a regular point or an arbitrary location it does not occur. I tried several configurations and every time the circle is centered on a CSYS it turns into a spline when you trim it.

My only conclusion is that this is a bug in the NX coding. Siemens should be notified if this is not intentional.

It's a bug, we logged PR Number 7941185 for a customer and it was reported to us as fixed in NX12.
