Load Duration Factor Kd (O86-14)

Load Duration Factor Kd (O86-14)

(OP)
Hello everyone!

I have a question regarding the load duration factor used in O86-14. I am designing a deck and the client has informed me they would like to put a hot tub on the deck. Does the hot tub require the use of a permanent-term duration load (Kd = 0.65)? If so, should I apply it to all members of the deck, or just to the members that will support the deck (joists underneath it, etc.)? Any other useful tips on applying this load duration factor would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers!

RE: Load Duration Factor Kd (O86-14)

I would look at the hot tub as a separate load item and use the sustained loading for the support of this only.
