Base Plate design in SCBF

Base Plate design in SCBF

Base Plate design in SCBF

(OP)
Hi All,

Section D2 6c says the base plates including their attachment to column needs to be designed for vertical components of required connection strength at the column base. Are they intending to say only the gusset to base plate connection needs to be designed for the strength of the brace connection? Or even the anchor rods (concrete failure) needs to be designed for the same?

Thanks

Can I get away with designing baseplates for overstrength combination?

RE: Base Plate design in SCBF

Pretty sure that the provisions specifically state that all steel elements, including base plates, anchor rods, stiffening plates, and shear lugs are designed for the required strengths.

So, no, you cannot simply use overstrength - overstrength would be your minimum loading, with the required strengths almost certainly exceeding that significantly.
