Welded Clamp Ferrules on Code stamped vessels and CRN
Welded Clamp Ferrules on Code stamped vessels and CRN
(OP)
#1. Which section of ASME Section VIII Division 1,U-1 addresses the SCOPE of commercially available Tri-Clamp fittings butt-welded to a pipe extension on a Code stamped vessel? (NOTE: Fitting is attached in accordance with VIII, Div.1 requirements)
Not Included: U-1(c)(2)(-e) & U-1(e)(1)(-a)
or Included: U-1(e)(1)(-d)?
#2. Canadian reviewer is requesting Calc's or proof test reports for the purchased standard Tr-Clamp weld fittings. Would it be acceptable to provide a copy of the manufactures Catalog Pressure/Temperature chart?
#3. The pressure & temperature is determined not by the fitting but by the style of Clamp. Are we required to bring attention to the customer what clamp is required if we're not supplying the clamp?

RE: Welded Clamp Ferrules on Code stamped vessels and CRN
1) if your are supplying one, or part of one, welded to your vessel prior to hydro I'd say that part is within Sec VIII, Div 1 scope, U-1(e)(1)(d).
2) You'd best ask the reviewer but I tend to doubt it.
3) You should, absolutely.
Regards,
Mike
The problem with sloppy work is that the supply FAR EXCEEDS the demand
