ASME Line Blanks above 24"

ASME Line Blanks above 24"

ASME Line Blanks above 24"

(OP)
I have a 30" Flare line that requires spade/spacer out of the K.O. Drum but B16.48 ends at 24".
What code can I use for 30" / 36" ?

RE: ASME Line Blanks above 24"

Isnt there a section in B31.3 for design of (line) blanks which may help? You'd then need to do the calcs yourselves.

RE: ASME Line Blanks above 24"

Yes line blanks can be calculated using ASME B31.3 if that is the Code of the pipework - if not the the piping Code applicable will have a method to determine the thickness of the line blank.

RE: ASME Line Blanks above 24"

Well ASME B 16.47, which I can only assume is your flange code?, provides dimensions for blank flanges, which are probably fairly thick (about 1.5 time more for a 24")

I realize it's not the same thing as a line blind but if you only need to seal off from one direction might be a starting point.

Or section 304.5.3 in B 31.3 gives you a calculation to use.

LI,
You would not need the same thickness for a line blind as you need for a Blind Flange!!!

RE: ASME Line Blanks above 24"

DSB,

Give me some credit - I know that and said so in my response.

The OP was asking for codes to use - one option if all you want to do is seal from one direction is to use a blind flange to ASME B 16.47

If he wants to use a line blind / spade then he can calculate it as per B 31.3 section noted above.

RE: ASME Line Blanks above 24"

LI,
Touched a sore spot there. The OP was asking about line blanks (spade/spacer) not blind flanges so blind flange option should not have been brought into the discussion.

RE: ASME Line Blanks above 24"

DSB,

Not a sore point and maybe not, but it's the only "code" I could find for > 24" so if the OP wanted an easy way out it is an option, but maybe one he doesn't want to pursue.

Maybe you can use a blind flange, but get a sealing surface machined on both sides?
