Hydro Testing of Trim Valves on Equipment

Hydro Testing of Trim Valves on Equipment

Hydro Testing of Trim Valves on Equipment

(OP)
Would you guys do a B31.3 hydro test on trim valves on equipment that we are not planning to use at this time. They will be blinded off for use as a future tie point. The valves come from the manufacturer with a hydro, but only for a few seconds at flange rating.

I would think we would not test the valves to B31.3 until we are ready to put piping to it, then test against it with the system test. Others feel we should built a test stand to hydro the valves to B31.3 prior to installing on the equipment.

Need opinions and thoughts.

Thanks,
JG

RE: Hydro Testing of Trim Valves on Equipment

I don't see a need from a B31.3 point of view to hydrotest valves or vale trims if the valves meet a B31.3 listed standard like B16.34. It's the same as with a B16.5 blind flange. I don't have the code at hand to provide you with a direct reference though.

Valves should be provided with a certificate from the vendor.
