RE: steel for cutting spring wire sae 1070

Is the spring wire to be cut already heat treated to a spring temper?  In other words, what is the strength and hardness of the wire to be cut?  If it is already heat treated to a high hardness, then you will probably need a tungsten carbide-type material for optimum cutting (minimum burr, suitable cutting life, etc.).  If it is annealed, then you can probably use a tool steel.

The wire is as I bougth it , in roll .I coil it to 56 internal diameter as a extension spring.
Ther is no previous heat treatment.
I get some info that recomend to use D2 tool steel , hardend, and tempered to 56 60 HRC.
If the wire is 1,75 mmm and using such steel , what is the gap between male and female?
Thanks for your advice.
