ACI 530, paragraph 1.13.3.2:
Does this refer to anchorage only to roofs and elevated floors?, or does it also apply to the floor that the wall is sitting on? If so, what does "direct connection" mean? Is the friction between mortar and floor slab a direct connection? Or are a keyway or dowels required?

Generally, friction does not qualify as a direct connection. There must be some sort of mechanical interlock.
