Best selection of ISO to put in title block

Best selection of ISO to put in title block

(OP)
Hello,
Can I get some recommendation for ISO standards that have to be mentioned in drawing title block. What is good to have,a nd what is must have?

RE: Best selection of ISO to put in title block

ISO has what's known as "Invocation principle" which reads:

Once a portion of the ISO GPS system is invoked in a mechanical engineering product documentation, the
entire ISO GPS system is invoked, unless otherwise indicated on the documentation, e.g. by reference to a
relevant document.

So, essentially, specifying the entire group of standards is optional.

Nevertheless the following may be recommended:

ISO 1101 as fundamental standard.

ISO 14405 (with appropriate modifiers) to specify how you measure your sizes

ISO 8015 for fundamental principles

ISO 2768 (with appropriate modifiers) or alternative for general tolerances

Also don't forget:

View projection method

Dimensional units (if operating from US or Liberia)

Workpiece edges treatment

Surface texture

IvanNX,

Which ISO standards are you capable of following?

We have long list of ISO that we are folowing. It is just that we did not have this ISO note in title block in some segments of production, and we want to start using it for all our drawings, but I would like not to push it to much... One that I saw on some of these drawings is ISO 2768-c, and I would like to know if it is useful to mention some other along this one.

RE: Best selection of ISO to put in title block

We wrote our own specification which lists exactly what ISO standards we use and any exceptions. For instance, we invoke the envelope principal by default for all drawings. Had to do it that way because we migrated from an obsolescent internal company standard to ISO and did not want to change the interpretation of any of the old or new drawings. We just call out our specification on the title block and distribute it to all suppliers.
