"Non-Geometric" for not displaying parent components of Wave Linked Bodies?

"Non-Geometric" for not displaying parent components of Wave Linked Bodies?

"Non-Geometric" for not displaying parent components of Wave Linked Bodies?

(OP)
Hi,

The current company I'm working at is using the property, Non-Geometric as a form of hiding parent components that have been Wave Linked.
I'm used to only seeing Non-Geometric used for things like adhesives and other ways to hide the parent of Wave Linked bodies.

Q: Is there any reason to suggest another way, other than using "Non-Geometric," for the purpose of not showing the parent component(s) of linked bodies?

Typical methods I've seen, that work okay, for not showing the original components after their bodies have been wave linked are:

- Omit component(s) from the displayed part, MODEL Reference Sets -> move them to a separate layer (maybe called Original Components or Linked Parents) -> turn layer off

- Omit component(s) from the displayed part, MODEL Reference Set -> replace the the sub-component(s) Reference Set to Empty (this works okay if everyone's 'Reference Sets' load options are set to 'As Saved')

- Omit component(s) from the displayed part, MODEL Reference Set -> Suppress the parent component(s) (link bodies won't update with any changes to the parent component unless they are un-suppressed)

Thanks,

This is the second time I'm asking this question (I apologies for any confusion) because I forgot the Subject line the first time...

RE: "Non-Geometric" for not displaying parent components of Wave Linked Bodies?

Is there some need to have the parent components appear as a node in the assembly navigator? I can't think of a reason that would be necessary. I've always used a dedicated layer for linked geometry which is not part of the model reference set.

Hi erik,

I'm not sure what you mean by "Node."

Are you asking if we need to have the original component in the same file as the Linked Body (reporting in the Assembly navigator of the same file)?

If so, I do not think that is a requirement, however that wouldn't help me with my question.
