RE: Hello friends welder stamp/ID mark

You can or use other means of recording the welder ID based on your Quality Manual requirements.

RE: Hello friends welder stamp/ID mark

There is no minimum size for welder ID marking.....only for nameplate data, and then it is 5/32". See UG-119(c)(1). Also UW-37(f) for welder id.

RE: Hello friends welder stamp/ID mark

(OP)
ug-118
Stamped or electrochemically etched letters and figures
shall be in characters not less than 5/i 6 in. (8 mm)
high.
uht-86- Any steel stamping shall be done with "low stress"
stamps as commercially available.

RE: Hello friends welder stamp/ID mark

As David stated there is no minimum size for welder ID stamping. UG-118 refers to the nameplate stamping. In fact if your quality manual details how you do it welder tracability may be by weld map or other means so no marking on the vessel is required.

RE: Hello friends welder stamp/ID mark

stanly;
How many times do we need to answer the question?

1. You can use low stress stamp.
2. You can use a weld map.

RE: Hello friends welder stamp/ID mark

You can use die stamp on mats 1/4 and above but not on all metals. Low stress is optional but highly if mats below the 1/4" you will use low stress or map it. Per the size of the stamping, look it up.

RE: Hello friends welder stamp/ID mark

UG-118 refers to the size of the stamping if you are not using a nameplate and stamping required markings (UG-116) on the vessel itself.
Are you building a vessel using UHT materials? If not, then of course this section is not applicable. However, it is a good idea to use low stress stamps regardless....mandatory for NACE compliant vessels.

You might want to look into using weld maps.

RE: Hello friends welder stamp/ID mark

(OP)
yes i completely agree with you. it is good practice to stamp welder id every 3 ft apart by using 5/16" or 3/8" stamp so if you stand 2 ft apart from weld able to read.

weld map is also necessary which shows what welding process and also welder i.d.
