High Resolution Position Sensor or Distance Measurement Sensor?

High Resolution Position Sensor or Distance Measurement Sensor?

High Resolution Position Sensor or Distance Measurement Sensor?

(OP)
Hey guys, I'm currently working on a project that requires a sensor to measure the variance on a 1.75mm or 3.00mm diameter (out if roundness variance can be ignored) in a .00X tolerance range if I can. Something 0-5V will feed my DAQ (that is all I have access to for the time being). Does anyone have any suggestions of where to start looking or have other ideas to look at? Thanks.

Yeah, for something that small and that high of tolerance, I would aim for a microscope-style lens and machine vision.

A laser displacement sensor or perhaps a laser micrometer would probably do this. Keyence is my brand of choice, but they are pricey. There are others like SICK, Banner Engineering, OMRON, Panasonic that may do the trick.

We have a laser system from Kentucky Gauge. It works well.

Are you allowed to touch the object, or must it be a contactless measurement? What is the object made of?
