Slotted hole in Tread grating

Slotted hole in Tread grating

Any one know about Steel Stair Grating treads, whats is the purpose of slotted hole in one end of grating treads.

RE: Slotted hole in Tread grating

it allows for adjustment of treads

But there is STD hole in both holes in stringers, how can possibility to adjust?

RE: Slotted hole in Tread grating

Rajesh, you've read my mind. I'm honestly not sure how the slotted hole comes into play. The only scenario that comes to mind is if, for some reason, only the stringer hole that would align with the tread's standard hole is not pre-drilled, because the engineer or contractor needs the ability to slide the tread in the field before fixing the tread at the standard-hole end of the tread.

RE: Slotted hole in Tread grating

"Adjust" may not be exactly the right word.
"Accommodate" may be a better choice.
The point is that it's not possible to make two pairs of holes, e.g. in stringer and tread, line up perfectly so that bolts just slip in easily. Making one of the four holes 'obround', allows for a practical amount of uncertainty of location.

RE: Slotted hole in Tread grating

I misread the part about having a slotted hole in one end only, that is a bit odd. However, my thought for being able to adjust (at least one end of) the treads is that there is a code requirement that the tread width cannot vary by a certain amount.
