Heat Exchanger Design Program

Heat Exchanger Design Program

(OP)
Hello,

I am currently working with a vendor on a design for a shell and tube heat exchanger. I have completed a design using Aspen EDR, and submitted a specification sheet based on that design for bids. One of the vendors has commented that my design is undersurfaced for the specified duty. They are using a program called AIDEX by A.I.D. Inc. I have never heard of this program before, and am only familiar with EDR or HTRI.

Has anyone know anything about AIDEX, and how its calculations compare to Aspen or HTRI?

Thank you,

David

Hi Gabriel,

Thank you for the offer. May I ask what program you use? I would like to have my Aspen design checked by HTRI.

RE: Heat Exchanger Design Program

Never heard of AIDEX, or AID Inc. for that matter - googling doesn't help here too!

What process is the shell and tube designed for?

RE: Heat Exchanger Design Program

you need to review the numbers that the simulator is providing you. Besides plugging numbers, you need to review them and see if they are feasible or not

IOM you should listen to the vendor and recommend him that he adjusts your values. However, if the other vendors dont comment i would just compare his offer with the others without taking this into account.

Best regards, Morten

A closer comparison review of the detailed sizing outputs will easily show up the reasons why the 2 simulators are producing different results.

RE: Heat Exchanger Design Program

Hey David,
I could review your design and then we can discuss. I use ASPEN EDR though.
