Underground fuel oil piping containment requirements
Underground fuel oil piping containment requirements
(OP)
I have been informed recently that as of 2002, underground fuel piping systems (within battery limits) are required to be installed as dual-walled pipe for containment purposes. Is anyone familiar with the code that requires containment for buried fuel oil piping? If yes, what code?

RE: Underground fuel oil piping containment requirements
The Federal Code is I believe: EPA/530/UST. However be aware that the EPA has in many cases given oversight for rules and regulations to the individual States. You should check to be sure which rules to follow as your State may be more stringent. Generally speaking, double wall pipe is required for underground fuel lines. From the standpoint of liability for cleanup if they leak its a prudent move.
RE: Underground fuel oil piping containment requirements
You should be aware that many US states define underground piping attached to a tank as a "tank accessory"......
(Remember, these environmental statutes and laws are written by lawyers.....not engineers!!!.......a potato can be called a banana if so defined by attorneys)
Check with the rules regulating the tanks and you will find piping requirements...
