Exporting intersection pattern fill to GIS (area) format

Exporting intersection pattern fill to GIS (area) format

Please pardon my inexperience with Microstation!

I have been given the huge task of converting microstation linework into an ESRI coverage format.  Patterns were filled into areas with boundaries that reside on different levels. ie forest cover boundaries intersect river boundaries which essentially close the polygon.

My question was whether or not there is some inherent polygon formed via the intersection pattern fill that could be used to export to a GIS format.

Any help or direction would be much appreciated
