NX 10 :Wave or Promote Body for machined weldment?

NX 10 :Wave or Promote Body for machined weldment?

NX 10 :Wave or Promote Body for machined weldment?

(OP)
I have some questions regarding NX 10. I need some advice on which method to use to create models and drawings for a multi-stage manufacturing process: “WAVE linking” or the “Promote Body” command. I also need some mentoring on how to apply these methods. I am designing/drawing a fixture which requires three manufacturing steps: (1) Several saw-cut parts which have angles and notches – models and drawings for these parts have been made. (2) The above mentioned parts are then welded together to create a weldment – the model and drawing for the weldment have been made. (3) The weldment is then machined flat and threaded holes are added. This will require a separate machining drawing. I am having difficulty with the third step as I do not want the holes to migrate back to the original parts or to the weldment model/drawing. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

For something like that, my personal preference was 'Promote Body'.

Create your new machined part file, add the weldment as a component, then promote the weldment body, and start putting your holes in it. The original will remain unchanged.
