Hello Engineers,

For G+10 storied concrete building is it correct to choose column least dimension 12 in?? Some expert says for 10+ storied rcc building it is best to choose column least dimension 15 in.But my structure says it is satisfied in 12 inch.

N.B.=My column sizes are

(12 in x 30 in)
(12 in x 36 in)
(12 in x 24 in)

Whats your thoughts/comments??

What is the tributary or column to column distance?
Also, what is the occupancy?

About 180 sft for 12 in x 36 in columnn,live load is 80 psf.

Are you in high seismic region?

RE: About Column Least Dimension

If it will be constructed in a seismic region, in my opinion I would require to increase those sections.
Because I think those sizes won't satisfy drift requirements.

Then whats your opinion??

increase the sizes and check all the necessary code requirements to be satisfied.

That means we have to choose minimum 15 inches least dimension.

RE: About Column Least Dimension

12" is a relatively small column width for a multi-story building. Not sure what your story-story height is but I would make sure the column width meets minimum KL/r requirements.

RE: About Column Least Dimension

I don't believe there is enough information for anyone to make a sound judgment.

Be sure to check that fire design is satisfied.

I'd suspect you'd struggle making 250mm wide columns work, unless you increase the length by a minimum of 4x the width (ie 1000mm).

In saying that you could have a column every 3m... the question really need more info...
