Bending Stress Check in Steel Plate

Bending Stress Check in Steel Plate

Bending Stress Check in Steel Plate

(OP)
Hi all,

First time poster, been using this forum for bits and bobs the last 6 months or so. I'm a draughtsman in a scaffold design office in the UK at the moment and have just been asked to find details on the minimum base plate thickness for a plate anchored to a slab with a centrally acting moment, and the calcs involved. This is for drill fixed edge protection on a site, and the maximum acting moment is 0.6kNm at the handrail post location central of plate.

The base plate size I'm working with is 200mm x 100mm, with the overturning moment acting along the 200mm. I've attached a detail for clarity. Basically I assume I need to work out the maximum bending stress and check this against the allowable bending stress for various thickness of plate, but if someone knows the best way for me to check this and could point me in the right direction it would be much appreciate as it's a little out of my area.

Thank you in advance for any help at all.

RE: Bending Stress Check in Steel Plate

well I would say....go ask an engineer around you.... if this handrail is for protection it need to be safe designed

best regards
Klaus
