Hi,

I'm having trouble achieving a fully structured mesh on my part. I've attached an image of the geometry.

Overview of the problem is that i am modelling a hyper-elastic actuator that has uniform pressure applied to all internal surfaces in order to deform it, only half of the actuator is being modeled.

I have imported the part from NX in both IGES and STEP file formats, when using IGES (after Abaqus auto-repairs the geometry) I cannot partition the part at all. When using STEP the best I can get is shown in the image I attached. I have also tried building the part in Abaqus in order to avoid having to import using a different format, and still a fully structured mesh can't be achieved.

A fully structured mesh is crucial for this simulation and any advice would be appreciated. I don't think that the geometry is particularly complex and I can't understand why this can't be done.

Separating arcs into 90° segments can change to mesh possibilities. But it still relies on other attached regions. Maybe it is impossible to get it meshable with structured mesing. Often it is trial and error and/or experience to find out.

Use existing flat faces to partition the whole thing, then partition the arcs into 90 degree segments using planes created from 3 points. It looks like you did that with some of the arcs but didn't do it for all of them. It seems strange that the whole thing isn't already structured throughout unless you haven't used the flat face at the back to partition the whole thing. There should be on problem getting a structured mesh with the geometry you have.
