HILTI BOLTS Edge distance

HILTI BOLTS Edge distance

HILTI BOLTS Edge distance

have any standards for hilti bolts edge distance. In AISC there for connection hole edge distance standards only. Any one have clarify my doubt.

RE: HILTI BOLTS Edge distance

HILTI provides technical specifications including edge distances limits.

RE: HILTI BOLTS Edge distance

For edge distance in the concrete (or masonry), HILTI provides guidance.

For edge distance in a steel member, consider AISC's limits for an equivalent diameter bolt.

RE: HILTI BOLTS Edge distance

Yes, HILTA has those numbers. Remember to check the "cone" - depth matters since it increases the cone radius at the surface; as does any sideways forces (towards or away) from the edge.

More important, they have "reduction factors" to use when the insert is used closer to the edge than "100% strength" ... If the insert is not loaded to the theoretical maximum, a closer distance (to the curb or wall edge) can be successfully used.

RE: HILTI BOLTS Edge distance

You can also download their Profis Anchor design software - you do have to create an account at the hilti website to do so, though.

RE: HILTI BOLTS Edge distance

Definitely download the free Profis software. It's pretty easy to use and will save you some time.

RE: HILTI BOLTS Edge distance

I 2nd Damorim's thought to download the Profis software, it is pretty easy to use and will automatically check whether your edge distance to concrete is acceptable. Also, note the following:

1) Profis allows you to input a steel base plate, if that's the scenario at hand, more for context than any other reason. It doesn't actually perform any stress checks on the base plate or check the steel edge distances.
2) Sometimes it is beneficial to try decreasing your anchor size if you're running into concrete edge distance issues, as larger diameter anchors require more edge distance per Hilti. This is especially helpful in a scenario where the check on the steel strength is showing a value many times greater than the required strength.
3) Note that you can select the applicable version of ACI 318 via pull-down menu. As an FYI, mine seems to open on ACI 318-08 by default, despite being the most recent version of the program.
