Wind Loads

Wind Loads

Wind Loads

(OP)
My subject is : computation of wind forces on complex structures.
My first "complex structure" is a jetty with road and few piperacks.

Some codes (Australian Standard, NV65 ) are dealing with a shielding effect of one lattice plane to the successive ones against cross wind.
But there is nothing about this in Eurocode.

My goal is to find a way to introduce this "shielding effect" with Eurocode parameters because they wanted to know if that effect would have an important influence on the concrete support design.

Second question : Eurocode treats with -x-axe wind and -y-axe wind. How should I consider an askew wind ? simply by decomposing it ?

Have you got some informations about those question? some good articles ?

PS: My company doesn t use any software that can calculate wind on structures.

Thank you very much for your answers, that could help me a lot. (I hope you'll understand my poor english)

RE: Wind Loads

ASCE Wind Load for Petrochemical facilities has a good design guide for piperack, etc.. you can probably use the logic. I don't think it considers shielding effect of another structure to another structure.

RE: Wind Loads

yes, the ASCE "Wind Loads and Anchor Bolt Design for Petrochemical Facilities" has a very good presentation on wind shielding on pipe racks and steel frames etc......
