I want to make a simple hand-held device that shows time on a display (LCD), that can store (in memory) the time when a key touch occurred (via one key pad) and allow the user to access this stored time (to appear on the display).

What does this require from the microchip used and from the type of display used?

Suggestion: It appears from the above specifications that you need functions which some clocks or wristwatches have. Then, one may contact their manufacturers or purchase the wristwatch or clock with the chip/processor inside.

Suggest you visit  www.nollet.com.au ; Have a look at the Basic Stamp and other microchips.  You should find PDF files containing information and coding examples on how to achieve your circuit. There are many links to other relevant sites.....Jim T.
