PV Base Ring Required Thickness

PV Base Ring Required Thickness

PV Base Ring Required Thickness

(OP)
Hi,

I have been designing pressure vessels per ASME Section VIII Div.1 for budgetary estimate purposes. While reviewing the calculations output from PV Elite, I have been having a hard time following how the base ring required thickness is determined. I cannot find anything in Section VIII Div.1 code that relates to sizing base rings. Could someone shed some light on these calculations?

Much appreciated.

RE: PV Base Ring Required Thickness

I would expect the calculations are following a methodology from one of the vessel design handbooks, check those for starters.
Generally, skirts, base rings, saddles, legs, lugs are not part of the pressure envelope so they're not covered by detailed design requirements in the ASME code.

Ok, I will dig around and see what I can find. Thanks.

RE: PV Base Ring Required Thickness

I am not familiar with PV Elite. Have you looked at the technical documentation that comes with the software. Most (all) structural analysis software (that I use) has documentation describing the methodology and acceptance criteria.

Student_master:
Most good PV design textbooks, or ref. books, should have a good section or two on support system design.
