Butler Building truss purlin

Butler Building truss purlin

Butler Building truss purlin

(OP)
As some of you are probably aware Butler buildings uses an unusual cold rolled section for their truss purlin top and bottom chords. Has anyone ever had to reinforce a truss purlin due to a point load located off of a panel point? What does that detail look like?

RE: Butler Building truss purlin

Butler has some literature on how to look at reinforcing their proprietary Truss Purlin Chords. You/the "Butler Builder" that you got the building from should be able to contact Butler and get help/designs (for a price)for reinforcing the Truss purlin for point loads. The chords for the Truss purlin are a proprietary cold formed steel section.

RE: Butler Building truss purlin

We have a number of details worked out to either reinforce and/or repair damage to truss purlin chords. A lot of it depends upon what sizes of loads we are discussing. It may be as simple as adding a vertical between the load point and the panel point on the lower chord below the load point in question. Have you Butler Builder contact the Product Development department in Grandview. Please indicate whether this is an older truss purlin (pre-2014) or the newer bolted truss purlin as the details may vary slightly between the two.
