Color vs. Black on White PDF's

Color vs. Black on White PDF's

Color vs. Black on White PDF's

(OP)
Hi,

At the company I work for, PDF's are now auto-generated into TC with color, during the release process.

This is to support color coded schematics and wires diagrams however, non-color coded drawings are still required to be black-on-white.

No program was created to support switching from one to the other so, as a result, all non-color coded drawings need to be changed manually(!).

Until something changes, whether we go back to the way it was or someone creates a tool to allows us to switch between options, I have suggested the following process:

1. Make all the appropriate layers "Selectable"(drawing format layers, layers with dimensions, symbols, notes etc.)
2. View toolbar (Visualization group) -> Edit Object Display
3. Class Selection dialog (Filters group) -> Type Filter (filtered selection rather than Ctrl+A to avoid changing model geometry to black)
4. Select by Type dialog -> de-select any filter type that will change model geometry (face, solid body, component, routing object etc.) -> OK
5. Class Selection dialog (Object group) -> Select All -> OK
6. Edit Object Display dialog (Basic group) -> Color
7. Choose Black (ID 216) -> OK -> OK

QUESTION: is there an easier way?

Thanks in Advance (TIA),
Sean

RE: Color vs. Black on White PDF's

Does the export process use the export -> pdf command from within NX? And is the print properties -> colors option set to "as displayed"? If so, you can change your drawing to monochrome mode (preferences -> visualization -> color/font -> drawing part settings -> monochrome display) before exporting the pdf. The monochrome option will display your drawing as black and white (without actually changing the colors of the objects) and the export as displayed option will give you what you see on screen. This will result in a black and white pdf without all the work of changing object colors and you can easily revert to a colored drawing by turning the monochrome option off.
