Rename Aseembly/Part from Drawing

Rename Aseembly/Part from Drawing

Rename Aseembly/Part from Drawing

(OP)
Is there a macro that would let me rename the part or assembly I am drafting from the drawing workbench?
I am working with a large assembly and have to rename details and assemblies based on which page they reside on.

RE: Rename Aseembly/Part from Drawing

Interesting. Why do you you need to take names from a drawing? P/Ns or item numbers come from product. What happens if you move a view to another sheet? You give moved part new part number?

RE: Rename Aseembly/Part from Drawing

The standards I have to follow for drafting are that the Detail and Assembly numbers come from the page they are drafted on.
So, I am unable to assign a number to it until i know which page it will be detailed on.

If the view is moved to another sheet, the part number would change.
For example:
Details on sheet 2 would look like:
-201, -202, -203, -210, and -265.

Details on sheet 3 would look like:
-301, -302, -303, -310, and -365.

RE: Rename Aseembly/Part from Drawing

this will kind of create a loop as the drawing will depends of the 3D (view made from 3D) but you're saying the 3D also depends from the drawing (3D name defined by drawing data).

not impossible to do I guess as the link Drawing -> Part will not be associative, but made by script.

You will eventually face a problem when a view is moved and the part is not renamed at the same time.

Also changing the view from one sheet to another might trigger release process if the 3D is already released and you want to change its name...

Anyway. in order to be able to know what part is used for a view, we'll need to understand how your create the view.

is the view link with the part? or with the product, using a scene? or using modifylink function? Is the view linked or isolated?
