Proof Loads - Post-Installed Epoxy Anchors
Proof Loads - Post-Installed Epoxy Anchors
(OP)
Hello Everyone,
I am trying to determine proof loads for some post-installed epoxy anchors using Hilti HIT-RE 500 V3 epoxy. Previously I had found this documentation from OSHPD from 2008 (which seems to be an interpretation of the CBC):
I recently reached out to Hilti for their recommendation on it and received this recently revised segment of AC308 13.3.4:
To me, the requirements from AC308 make more sense but do not account for other possible limiting factors in the design(e.g. concrete break-out strength could control over bond strength).
What is the industry standard for proof load testing? What do you guys spec for proof loading? Thanks in advance.
Peter

Test loads should be greater of 2x maximum allowable tension load or 1.5x max design strength of anchors. But should not exceed 80% of nominal yield strength of anchor (0.8*Fye*Ase).
I recently reached out to Hilti for their recommendation on it and received this recently revised segment of AC308 13.3.4:
Test loads shall not exceed the lesser of 67% of the bond strength (uncracked concrete and accounting for edge distance and embedment) or 80% of the nominal yield strength of the anchor.
To me, the requirements from AC308 make more sense but do not account for other possible limiting factors in the design(e.g. concrete break-out strength could control over bond strength).

RE: Proof Loads - Post-Installed Epoxy Anchors
My understanding is that the proof load doesn't correlate well as the test is not dynamic and the concrete is not cracked during loading. Therefore, the values are not very representative of the design conditions.
