Deflection of loaded disk

Deflection of loaded disk

Deflection of loaded disk

(OP)
I'm looking for a reference with deflection solutions for simple loaded plate and shell elements.  I'm trying to estimate the deflection of a disk that is supported at its OD and has an axial uniform load over its surface.  Can someone provide some help or advise?

RE: Deflection of loaded disk

dgunther,

I think you want to look at Roark's Formulas for Stress and Strain to start.

RE: Deflection of loaded disk

dgunther,

From Machinery's Handbook for the situation you have described.  Edge "supported" around circumference and a uniform distributed load over the surface of the plate:

d = 0.221 WxR^2/Et^3
(if the edge is fixed the multiplier changes to 0.0543)

Where -
d = deflection in mm
W = load in N
R = Radius of plate to supported edge mm
E = modulus of elasticity in N/mm
t = thickmess of plate in mm

Hope this helps

RE: Deflection of loaded disk

gjb,

If the disc has an hole in it of radius R0, would the equation be:

d = 0.221 Wx(R1-R0)^2/Et^3

where R1 is the outer diameter, and R0 is the inner diameter?
Also are the units of modulus of elasticity in N/mm2 and not N/mm?

thanks for your help!

RE: Deflection of loaded disk

Hi I looked at that book, it didn't have the disk deflection equation.

I was thinking that this might be the deflection correct equation for a disc with a hole in it.

d = 0.221 Wx(R1^2-R0^2)/Et^3
where R1 is the outer diameter, and R0 is the inner hole diameter.

Any input would be appreciated greatly!

RE: Deflection of loaded disk

dualspiralsystems,

Look in the reference section at the back of the book there are 18 examples of disks and loadings anlong with some graphs.
It is reference section 7.2

RE: Deflection of loaded disk

dgunther and dualspirasystems,
look in the site below under Plates -> Simple bending -> Annular pl. -> Supported-free -> Distr.load , hit Formulas, and you'll get perhaps more than what you are looking for.
