Nonlinear time history analysis of RCC frame equipped with viscous damper

Nonlinear time history analysis of RCC frame equipped with viscous damper

Nonlinear time history analysis of RCC frame equipped with viscous damper

(OP)
I got problem during analysis of RCC frame using non linear THA( direct integration method) considering material nonlinearity.
What type of hinge properties should I use?
How to define and assign this hinges to frame?

More details of your error?
For hinge assignment, depending on loading considered and type pf element (you would usually go for bending in case of beam for instance). Assign hinges at beginning and ending of each frame.
Make sure you run the DL case before running NL load cases to account its stiffness. I suggest you have a look at FEMA specifications and CSI manual for more details.
Load-control and displacement-control are two option available for handling such loadings, we as engineers prefer to have displacement-control to monitor at what incremental load, a prescribed displacement achieved which exceed serviceability limit for structure.
