SA-234-WPC (ASME II-A) chemical composition C vs Mn interpretation

SA-234-WPC (ASME II-A) chemical composition C vs Mn interpretation

SA-234-WPC (ASME II-A) chemical composition C vs Mn interpretation

(OP)
Hi everybody,

I need a help to interpret the standard ASME-II Part A (2015 Ed.) for material SA-234-WPC and table 1.
Carbon max = 0,35%
Manganese = 0,29% - 1,06%

For the Table 1 on WPC grade the note D is stating: "For each reduction of 0.01% below the specified carbon maximum, an increase of 0.06% manganese above the specified maximum will be permitted, up to a maximum of 1.35%."

I have received a material certificate from a supplier with the specific contents as below:
C = 0,14 % < 0,35%
Mn = 1,46 % >1,06% but regarding note D see my interpretation below:

According note D, and for this specific case, the C content reduction verified of 21 times (= [0,35-0,14]/0,01) is allowing an increment of 1,26% (=0,06% x 21) above 1,06% of manganese, resulting in an acceptance criteria of 2,32%, meaning that I can approve the Mn of 1,46% in this certificate?
I'm doing the interpretation that maximum of 1,35% in the note D can be considered as the maximum increment limited above the specified maximum of 1,06% (1,06%+1,35%) when the carbon content is too low in such cases.

It seems pretty clear. Mn max is 1.35%.

Hi Weldstan,

Not clear for me, maybe because is not my native language.
Mn max is 1,35% but is reference to increment above 1,06% or is the substitute of 1,06% whenever the carbon is lower than 0,35%?

It is a substitute until a maximum Mn of 1.35% is reached.
