Support ring for Packing inside vertical vessel

(OP)
I need to design a ring supporting packing inside a vertical vessel, I have started with Roark's formula for stress and strain but confused which case i should consider.

I would like to know if there is any other approach.

RE: Support ring for Packing inside vertical vessel

Steve.sw90, I would expect the usual pressure vessel handbooks address this feature.

Regards,

Mike

The problem with sloppy work is that the supply FAR EXCEEDS the demand

RE: Support ring for Packing inside vertical vessel

Depending on your geometry, it may be multiple load cases superimposed, or may not fit any of the load cases.

RE: Support ring for Packing inside vertical vessel

See Pressure Vessel Design Manual 4th Ed. Dennis R. Moss and Michael Basic.
