Double Gasket flange connection

Double Gasket flange connection

Double Gasket flange connection

(OP)
Dear all,
I have designed a non standard flange based on appendix-2, but i have a concern related to flange connection, there is a support plate for distributor in between two flanges, both the sides of plate have surface finish of 3.2 to 3.6 microns suitable for seating gasket, hence there will be two gaskets with support plate for distributor in between two flanges, will this arrangement have any affect on bolt load required to create proper seal, m and y considered that of spiral wound for design i.e m=3 y=703 kg/cm2.

RE: Double Gasket flange connection

IMO this setup does not affect the flange calculation: the two gaskets are in series, so the gasket seating load is the same as for a single gasket.

Same thought came to my mind, also there is a plate in between two gaskets with surface finish same as that of flange on both side of plate, thus giving proper seal with two gaskets with same bolt load required for single gasket to provide provide proper flange connection

RE: Double Gasket flange connection

No different than what is happening at every spectacle blind, orifice plate or "wafer style" valve or instrument on earth. What exactly is your question?
