Tube Centerline (Regular 3D PolyLine) Style Generation in Drawing Views

Tube Centerline (Regular 3D PolyLine) Style Generation in Drawing Views

Tube Centerline (Regular 3D PolyLine) Style Generation in Drawing Views

(OP)
Hello everyone,

We create bent tubes and hoses in our products using regular 3D polylines and splines (not the CATIA Tubing module) and sweeping a circle along the path. When we create our drawings, we want the solid to show the normal solid line and line weight we have defined in our standards, but I cannot figure out for the life of me how to get the 3D polyline to show as a centerline style automatically.

We have tried going to Properties of the 3D Polyline in model space and under Graphic tab > Lines and Curves, specifying a color and linetype. This works fine in 3D model space.

In the Drawing view, we go to View Properties > View tab > Dress-up area and turn on the "3D Wireframe" option as "Is always visible", but the polyline shows up and is a solid heavy lineweight (2) like the edges of the solid model. We want it to be a lighter lineweight (1) and centerline style.
We find that we can Ctrl+click all of the segments and manually change them, but that's a real pain on large parts, and they revert back to solid heavy lines any time you do a drawing update!

How do I make lines coming from the 3D Geometrical set always show with a particular style?

Thanks in advance.

Use generative parameters for that. You can create several parameters with different setting and use them. It's some kind of overload properties. However if CL is hidden in a part nothing will help. I hate when I forget to show bodies before I run drawing update indian.

I'm not seeing where Overload Properties helps here. All I am able to do in the view is select an entire Part from the View and specify whether it can be excluded from the view, can be sectioned, etc. No ability to select the poly line by itself. Am I missing something?

Use generative parameters
