Concrete silo for wheat

Concrete silo for wheat

Concrete silo for wheat

(OP)
I have never done something like this before. I did circular silo before, but with this I feel kinda uneasy...
Im wondering what to expect - problems, advices?

Silo is for wheat and its 9 meters heigh.
Outer (and some inner) walls are concrete - 30 cm thick
Rest of the walls are 25 cm thick.
Foundation slab is concrete - 40 cm thick.

Load:
WHEAT: density: 8 kN/m3, angle of repose: 30 degree

koeficient for pressure: k0 = 1-sin30 = 0,50

Max horizontal pressures on the walls: 9 m x 0,5 x 8 kN/m2 = 36 kN/m2
Max vertical pressures on the foundation slab: 9 m x 8 kN/m3 = 72 kN/m2

What do you guys think? Advices, suggestions?
Dimensions of walls, slab normal/expected?

RE: Concrete silo for wheat

I did something similar to this some years ago. One of the main things I would tell you to look out for is: pattern loading. In other words: since this thing is multi-celled, there may be a possibility that cells off center will be filled while others remain empty. (That will (of course) produce unequal bearing and more overturning moment.)

RE: Concrete silo for wheat

I'm not an expert on these but isn't there a loading associated with situations where the contents hang up on the walls, forming a sort of arch, and then have a type of dynamic impact loading when the arch lets go and drops the contents?
