simplified method to work out reinforcement in concrete beam (Australian Standard)

(OP)
Hi guys:

The equations that I used at the moment is

0.85f'cbγkud=Astfsy and
M*=0.8*Astfsy(d=γkud/2)

I substituted the first equation into the second equation to form a quadratic equation in order to find the ku value.

After solving the equation i ended up with two ku values both below 0.4

I am a bit confused which ku value I should use to design the reinforcement

Is there any simplified method to work out steel reinforcement in concrete beam?

Regards

Can you give details of an example that gives two solutions.

RE: simplified method to work out reinforcement in concrete beam (Australian Standard)

I believe he's saying that when he plugs the first formula into the second, he's getting a quadratic, which makes sense. However the OP needs to check his algebra, because he shouldn't get two positive answers for ku, it should be 1 negative and 1 positive.
