when reviewing a WPQ
SA 53 GRADE B PIPE ( TS-60,000 PSI) The Tensile test result indicate 56,900 psi broke in base metal.
5% of tensile strength below is 57,000 psi.
so it break in base metal at 57,000 psi will be accepted.
now if i get 56,900 what is result.?

I agree with David; looks like a failure to meet the minimum specification requirements.

When I review such documents, I double check the math as the results could have been reported incorrectly. The rounding/number of significant figures used for the calculation could possibly, though unlikely, make a difference as well.

Yes , i also agree but i was told result is pass because of rounding numbers. so i didn't understand.
so i thought i will put this question to ask some experts about their opinion.

Think of it this way. The purpose of a procedure qualification is to prove that your welding procedures essential variables are established and will guide a welder to make sound welds. The purpose of a welder qualification is to prove the welder a ability to deposit sound weld metal. If either of these doesn't pass there is a reason. Most acceptable tensile tests on welded joints pass well beyond the minimum specified values. If you are trying to skirt past the requirements based on a rounding issue, then don't expect good results on your production welds. It's just not worth it.

Your measurements for determining area were no doubt to 3 significant figures; therefore the tensile results are to 3 significant figure and may not be rounded up to 57,000 (2 significant figures). But do check the math as per SectionIX. I would be more concerned with the low tensile results of the SA-53 B, especially if it is representative of material purchased for installation.

Inspect this specimen, may be machined wrong.
