STL file problem after importing

STL file problem after importing

STL file problem after importing

(OP)
Hi,
I have imported STL file to Nx and it is not shown in part navigator. I can see the solid and not able to extract curve or select and do some operations on it.
If anyone have idea on this please help me.

Regards,
Ravi

RE: STL file problem after importing

STLs files do NOT result in solids - they result in faceted bodies which have been generated from solid bodies.

How NX recognizes them will probably depend upon the version of NX you're using, and the version should be posted when asking questions because the answers can be version dependent.

RE: STL file problem after importing

This is why we hate STL files. NX does provide some tools for working with STL files, allowing you to snip away sections that you do not need or extracting section curves from them; but by and large STL files are a real headache to work with. NX 11 has something new called "convergent modeling" which sounds like it will improve the situation; if you are using NX 11, look it up in the help files. Whether you are using NX 11 or not, look up "rapid surfacing", "snip", and "decimate"; these will give you an indication of what can be done with STL files and probably provide some links to other useful commands.

RE: STL file problem after importing

Turn off the timestamp order in the part navigator, then you will see the imported facet bodies/stl files.

You cannot directly extract curves from stl files in nx, as they do not contain any curves. There are functions to generate curves from curvature, fitting splines facet bodies, and intersecting with other geometry. Check the help file for more information under the reverse engineering topic.

I am using Nx 9.0
