NX9 - Datum Labeler and Blanker
NX9 - Datum Labeler and Blanker
(OP)
I am not sure if the Datum Labeler and Blanker is a GM Tool or just an add on tool that comes with NX. So I will give a bit of explanation to what this is....
A Datum File is a file we bring in to our tool that is basically nothing more than a bunch of one inch spheres placed in the locations where we need to clamp, pin or locate body parts in any other way. The spheres will have attributes stating which body parts will be located, which direction they will be located etc... Each sphere is given a name like CD12345L.
The Datum Labeler and Blanker tool is used in Modeling, and will allow you to select one of the spheres, and it will automatically create a label that states the CD# of the sphere, the location direction and it will give the X,Y,Z coordinates of that sphere.
Problem we are having....
When you select the sphere, you can see the label appear and all of the info is correct. It stays correct when you place the label. Once you click OK to escape the Labeler tool, the numbers will suddenly change. The new coordinates seem to be exactly 12.5mm toward you from the center of the sphere. As if the point is suddenly moved from the center of the sphere, to the surface of the sphere directly toward the viewer (screen).
We have used this tool for years but it seems to recently have just started doing this.
If anyone else out there has used this tool (in a GPDL9-a.3.12.1 menu) and has had this problem, please let me know if you have the fix. The only answer I can come up with so far that makes sense is that we must have had an update recently that causes this and they will need to send a patch, but until the IT department confirms this or disputes it, I was hoping to find an answer here possibly.

If anyone else has any ideas why this would be happening out of the sudden, I would appreciate the input.
RE: NX9 - Datum Labeler and Blanker
Unless the update to a new version occurred the same week you were posting here about any issues, there is a minimal chance that either of us would be running different versions - GM requires all suppliers are migrated within a few days of each other. The last update (to current version) was early this past November, so had either of us been using 3.12.1, we'd have been running an older version not approved for production work.
I would call GTAC and log the issue with them just in case it's a bug and can be fixed. Last I knew, they were handling issues with the toolkit but that does not mean it hasn't changed since the last time I had to call them with a problem. Also, double check that the command hasn't been moved - an entire Powertrain module that we used had been relocated in the GMPDL pulldown a couple of releases ago.
I feel your pain - it's not easy when GM messes up their proprietary tools.
