WAVE Links and Arrangements

WAVE Links and Arrangements

WAVE Links and Arrangements

(OP)
Hi NX'ers

In the past I was sure I was able to make WAVE links update across Arrangements, however I'm stuck at the moment with a relatively simple part. I want to show an umbrella frame (dont ask) in the open and closed position using Arrangements (and Arrangement specific constraints) but when I switch Arrangements, the WAVE links will not update to reflect the model correctly. See attached video (done in NX9)

thanks in advance.

Best regards

Simon

RE: WAVE Links and Arrangements

Ok I built a test assembly, and it seems that at least in NX9 and NX11 the position dependent wavelinks are dependent on the arrangement they were created in. This is not the behavior I would expect from position dependent links, I would expect them to be independent of the currently active arrangement and only reflect the current assembly position of the geometry. Interrogating the wave link feature reveals that this is probably by design......

Defining Part for Linked Composite Curve(2) : A (Fully Loaded)
Defining Feature for Linked Composite Curve(2) : Line(4)
Position determined by assembly : test_asm (Fully Loaded)
Position based upon arrangement : closed
Link Status : Up to Date

The NX9 test assembly is attached, try changing active arrangement.

Nope, still can't get it to work, as soon as I try and use a PIWL then the curve I select jumps away from it's origin. I would have thought this would be straight forward, but it's proving to be a real pain in the backside. grrrrrr

RE: WAVE Links and Arrangements

Hi Simon,

My solution was not correct in your case.

But you can try the following:

1°) create your bridge curves in an component
2°) suppress this component according to the open arrangement
3°) create another bridge curve for the closed arrangement in another arrangement
4°) suppress this component according to the closed arrangement

Hi Didier,

Yes, I had already found a work around similar to what you mentioned, I have spoke with Siemens and they confirm that WAVE links are arrangement specific and a number of people have made the same request as I have, GTAC have submitted an ER.

Many thanks

Si.

RE: WAVE Links and Arrangements

JCBCAD do you happen to have the ER number? i would like to me "me too" the request with GTAC.

RE: WAVE Links and Arrangements

Here you are

This IR was converted into an enhancement request (ER) on 19-JAN-2017
and is now referenced as ER Number 1996346. It is OPEN for review at this
time.
