ABAQUS/Standard with UMAT: How to calculate HOURGLASS STIFFNESS for C3D8R?

ABAQUS/Standard with UMAT: How to calculate HOURGLASS STIFFNESS for C3D8R?

ABAQUS/Standard with UMAT: How to calculate HOURGLASS STIFFNESS for C3D8R?

(OP)
The analysis involves UMAT so HOURGLASS STIFFNESS parameter has to be specified in the input file - http://50.16.225.63/v6.14/books/usb/default.htm?st...

Now, How do I calculate the HOURGLASS STIFFNESS parameter for C3D8R element? All I have is the value of E, v and plastic stress-strain curve.

Thanks for helping out.

RE: ABAQUS/Standard with UMAT: How to calculate HOURGLASS STIFFNESS for C3D8R?

Hi ShadowWarrior,

you may have a look at the Abaqus documentation: http://129.97.46.200:2080/v6.14/books/key/default....

You could also start some convergence studies in order to see the variation in the total energy (hourglass control energy is the term i believe) and see how it behaves also trying to vary the hourglass control in the element options.

Hope I could give you some small, useful hints.

Cheers,

Hi Jousef,

I have had a look at the link, but still need something step by step on how to calculate the Hourglass energy.

Hope somebody can help out.
