We used an early version of Volclay (bentonite) waterstop at our electric generating stations, beginning in 1991. Many below grade structures with the year-round water table essentially at the ground level. Have had good results - better than traditional PVC. This brochure is for the current product:

Thanks gentlemen, the three listed by Ron, and Jed are the ones under consideration. Adeka has quite a manual.

SRE, I've used Volclay for several decades and am looking into alternatives. There may be sodium or potassium salts involved. In general, I've not had a problem with Volclay, it works really well.

It appears that some of the rubberised hydrophilic waterstops use bentonite, too.
