Export shaded view to PDF transparency is missing

Export shaded view to PDF transparency is missing

Export shaded view to PDF transparency is missing

(OP)
Hi all together,

i tried to export my drawing to PDF but there is a problem.

My page contains some fully shaded views. Most of the body's shown are white and with transparency of 70%.
The other are red and transparency 0%.

On my screen it looks perfect but after export to PDF there is no transparency.

I played around with the export but nothing works fine.

In cgm viewer, before export there is also no transparency shown.
So the problem seems to be within NX.

Can somebody help?

All my views are exact before 8.5.

Thanks Hagen

You may need to export as a .tiff or .jpg, then bring that image into a .pdf. Just a thought...

This could be a way but I thing it is to complicated.

There are a lot of drawings with a huge number of pages.

I thing there is something wrong in my configuration so that transparency is not activ.

If i got to plot, action block and advanced plot i can checked cgm viewer. The viewer also show no transparency.

I believe the viewer capabilities are governed by the level of license you have, or can access. I think VisView Professional can display transparency, where VisView Base cannot. Could this be the case?

I don't understand that. Why should I need a VisView License inside NX. Cgm viewer only shows results of plot or exported cgm file.

But a missing VisView license can not be the problem. There are enough available.

RE: Export shaded view to PDF transparency is missing

How are you applying the translucency to the shaded view objects? It seems that I can get translucent objects in a shaded drafting view to export to pdf if I do a view dependent edit (NX 9 with "exact" or "pre NX8.5 exact" views).

If your view borders overlap shaded objects, those objects may lose some or all of their shading. This is probably a different, but maybe related, issue.

RE: Export shaded view to PDF transparency is missing

I've had success doing the following:

Set the view to Partially Shaded.
View-dependent-edit: edit-shaded-objects,
-> select the objects to be changed.
-> set your shade color and transparency
-> ensure "Partially Shaded" drop-down box is set to 'Yes' or other appropriate choice
Export PDF.

Go back and repeat as necessary to get the transparency/shaded-color to appear as desired.

I personally think this is a cumbersome and inelegant way to get this done. I believe this should be much simpler and intuitive. This is screwy. It works, though. It's incredibly difficult to work with if there are changes/edits or new views created, etc.

@ cowski
I did it in same way. I created a isometric baseview NX9 exact fully shaded.
I created a NXopen project which sets color and translurency by using view dependent edit.
The problem with view borders i read on siemens page. So i tried with only one view on page.

I now talked with our technical drawers. They discibed the problem in the same way as JNieman.

So i take the isometric view and turn it arround. I got a better result but it was different to what i saw on the screen.
I tried to change it again with view dependet edit an set transperency to 75%.
The pdf output is better but again different to the screen.

So this will be a try and error method. For so many views it is impossible to do it in that way.

If i understand in the right way it is a problem by creating pdf. It seems to be very difficult to create pdf with transparent objects.

So maybe i can use a different output type like dxf or cgm and convert it to pdf.

Did somebody try this.

Today i tested o lot of things.

It is the same result exporting it to dwg or other file types.
So it is a rendering problem.

I really get a good result by playing arround with different colors.
My backround is white and the best result i got by using a dark grey and a high % of transperency for the bodys.
