Solidworks crash with library features

Solidworks crash with library features

Solidworks crash with library features

(OP)
I've been having problems with Solidworks crashing when trying to save a file that contains library features.  I ran into the problem when I upgraded from SW 2001+ to SW 2003.  Library features that worked fine in 2001+ now crashed files in 2003.    The only solution was to redo the library features from new drawings that were made in SW 2003, now I upgraded to 2003 sp 1.0 and I have the exact same problem.  Solidworks has applied an SPR and is working on it.  Anyone else having this problem?

RE: Solidworks crash with library features

See SP1 list of fixes, I think it is in there.

This problem still exist in SP1. You can make your library features in SP0 and they will work fine, but once you upgrade to the SP1, the previous features will cause a crash. This is because the problem still exists in SP1.

SP2 is suppose to address this problem.

RE: Solidworks crash with library features

I have both SW2001+ and SW2003 on my PC. I run a test after reading your story, since I have to upgrade my company soon to SW2003. We use a lot of library features.

I tried everything, I tested SW2003 SP0.0 and 1.0 and could not crash the system in any way. Every time I inserted a LF I got the message that it was converted to 2003.

mncad, could you specify what you did, so I can repeat it over here? Thanks

The problem seems to occur if your library feature has items suppressed.  We have some really common shafts that we use alot and we had several configurations within a library feature.  Different configurations have different features suppressed and unsuppressed.  The suppressed features are what causing the problem.  Let me know if you have the same probem.

RE: Solidworks crash with library features

MNCAD,

Are you also experiencing other general crashes or is it specifically related to this subject? Ever since we installed 2003 we have had nothing but problems with the program crashing including saving a file, exporting an e-drawing or renaming a file.
Let me know if you will

gonzo,

I have noticed other crashes also.  Solidworks2003 seems to crash when I have tried to create something that it can't solve.  I'm new to Solidworks and solid modeling in general so that happens quite often. :) Your crash when saving, does the file contain a library feature that has features suppressed?  Haven't worked with the e-drawings at all so I'm not sure about that.  I have also had it crash when renaming files in solidworks, but not in solidworks explorer.
