Export 2-D Section View Of Model

Export 2-D Section View Of Model

Export 2-D Section View Of Model

(OP)
Greetings:

I have a model of a round part where the contour is unique. I need to section this part and export it into a .dwg file. Can anyone help me with that process?

Thanks,

Brent

RE: Export 2-D Section View Of Model

An overview of the process is below:
  • Switch to the drafting module, add a drawing sheet.
  • Add a base view of your model.
  • Create the desired section view from your base view.
  • Use file -> export -> autocad dxf/dwg to export the drawing sheet.
The details of each step may differ slightly depending on the version of NX that you are using.

Thank you cowski. Question - When exporting the drawing sheet, do you get a one to one export of that 2-D geometry when you get that into the .dwg file?

Thanks again,

Brent

RE: Export 2-D Section View Of Model

When you say a "one to one export of that 2-D geometry" are you referring to the size/scale of the exported entities or something else (perhaps "extra" entities being added to the dxf or existing entities not getting translated)?

If this is about size/scale, it will depend on some combination of your sheet scale, view scale, and export options (and possibly the import options of the other system). I don't often have the need to deal with dxf files; years ago, some files that I imported had to be scaled by a factor of 25.4 to account for english/metric unit conversions.

Cowski,

Yes, I'm referring to the scale. I just want to make sure that it when bringing it in to AutoCAD, that the geometry is scaled 1 to 1 (Full). I guess with your explanation above, there might be options to check to ensure it is scaled properly. For example, if in my UG drafting sheet, I brought a view in at 1:2, then when I export that sheet, will the geometry export at 1:2, or just Full?

Thanks again for your time on this question,

Brent

RE: Export 2-D Section View Of Model

If your view is 1:2, then the exported geometry should also be 1:2. Note that there is a "scaling option" in the dxf/dwg export wizard (options page). It doesn't seem to be mentioned in the help files
https://docs.plm.automation.siemens.com/tdoc/nx/10...
and I've not played around with it, so I'm not exactly sure what it does.

Ok, that helps. Thanks for your time on that.
