Hi guys. I've encounter this senten

Hi guys. I've encounter this sentence of shut down of a distillation column. What does it mean "block in"?
"If the system has to be emptied, block in the above mentioned control valves."

RE: Hi guys. I've encounter this senten

"Block in" means to isolate the system by closing the specified valves.

RE: Hi guys. I've encounter this senten

I agree. "Shut in" or "isolate" would be better IMHO,

It might be defined as a specific action somewhere in the rest of the procedure. Can you do a text search?

All control valves have been closed, then the authur said:"block in all mentioned control valves"

RE: Hi guys. I've encounter this senten

Control valves are never assumed to be bubble tight isolation. Where isolation is required to be bubble tight the designer installs a block valve in addition to the control valve. I wold take "block in" to mean shut actual block valves in addition to disabling control valves in the closed position.

Agree that "Block in" means to isolate the system by closing the specified valves.

Since this may involve a safety issue, you should put the question to the original designer.

RE: Hi guys. I've encounter this senten

I agree that the intent of the statement should be clarified, but it should be apparent from the P&ID of the system how isolation can be achieved.
