Stress Intensity versus Stress Concentration?

Stress Intensity versus Stress Concentration?

Stress Intensity versus Stress Concentration?

(OP)
Hello,

Can someone provide a physical interpretation of what stress intensity describes? Also, how does stress intensity differ from stress concentration?

RE: Stress Intensity versus Stress Concentration?

(OP)
Yes, I understand that stress intensity factors are used the describe the stress singularity produced at a crack tip. However, I was wondering what exactly is meant by stress intensity, not the factor used? Is it the increase in stress flow at the tip of a crack?

RE: Stress Intensity versus Stress Concentration?

The stress intensity....

The stress intensity factor , is used in fracture mechanics to predict the stress state ("stress intensity") near the tip of a crack caused by a remote load or residual stresses. ... The concept can also be applied to materials that exhibit small-scale yielding at a crack tip.
