material identified with or produced to a specification not permitted by ASME VIII Div. 1 UG-10

material identified with or produced to a specification not permitted by ASME VIII Div. 1 UG-10

Dear fellows,
I need a clarification about ASME Sec. VIII UG-10 (a)(1). Is that a correct understanding:
1- as long as the material identified with or produced to a specification not permitted by division 1 comply with a material specification permitted by division 1 (considering clauses (-a), (-b), (-c), (-d)) can be used for pressure vessel fabrication as per ASME VIII Div.1?
2- the requirement of clauses UG-10 (a)(1) (-a), (-b), (-c), (-d) can be considered that all melting practices, chemical and mechanical properties shall be complied.
If not how is that possible to use a material identified with or produced to a specification not permitted by division.
Thanks

RE: material identified with or produced to a specification not permitted by ASME VIII Div. 1 UG-10

How I interpret the text is this, excerpt below 2015 Edition Section VIII, Div 1

(a) Identified Material With Complete Certification
From the Material Manufacturer. Material identified with
a specification not permitted by this Division, or procured
to chemical composition requirements, and identified to a
single production lot as required by a permitted specification
may be accepted as satisfying the requirements of a
specification permitted by this Division provided the conditions
set forth in (1) or (2) below are satisfied.

So, you have (a) above which allows material to be used by a specification not permitted by Section VIII, Div 1 (meaning unlisted), you use either option (1) or (2) following.... This includes all of (1) or (2).

What more do you need?

Thanks Metengr.
Actually I have a Material test certificate of a material not listed in ASME Sec. II and want to know is that sufficient to check for compatibility as per part (1)? I mean checking chemistry, mechanical , melting process versus the targeted material specification and so on can be sufficient?

RE: material identified with or produced to a specification not permitted by ASME VIII Div. 1 UG-10

Yes. However, this unlisted material, with a test certificate, needs to be comparable to an existing ASME material specification with caveats in (1) or (2). So tread carefully.
