Opening up a surface to a certain angle.(Not sheetmetal object)

Opening up a surface to a certain angle.(Not sheetmetal object)

Opening up a surface to a certain angle.(Not sheetmetal object)

(OP)
Hello,

I have a hemmed object for which have to create the opened surface, that is the objects shape before the hemming takes place.

So is there a way/method/option to do this?
I was planning on measuring length of the bend radius, take that measure from the start of bend(in the surface before hemming). Then take the mirrored curve of the hemmed in surface.

Is this the correct/best/simplest methodology?
If not please let me know how you guys do it?

Thanks...

Pratham,
Using NX 10.0.2.6

can you provide some form of illustration ?
I understand nothing of this description.

There are a couple of options, depending on the licenses you have.
NX sheet metal will not unfold plastic deformations ( i hope i use the correct words.)
but mainly "straight brake" folds. ( There are exceptions)
If this is the license you have, try isolate the straight brake sides, then do an flat pattern or flat solid.

If you have the license "nx_onestep_analysis" you can unfold almost anything, including plastic deformations.
Search the command finder for "unfold" in the modeling application.

Tomas

@Tomas,
Thanks for the reply & sorry for replying so late.
Sadly we dont have that license as I cant find it in the command finder. I had to do it the hard way itself as mentioned before.

Its easier & better to create part in modelling module than sheet metal since it is a stamped part and has many features which cant(easily) be defined in sheetmetal module. Definitely if hemming was the only option with few other simple features, creating part in Sheet metal would be the best option.

@Pratham
I think Siemens would be interested to review sheet metal parts that you consider easier to create in modeling - they are always enhancing the sheet metal application. Submit your part to GTAC for consideration for enhancement request.
