Boronized cast steel weld repair
Boronized cast steel weld repair
(OP)
Hi All,
We have a cast carbon steel casing which has been boronized and needs weld repair at the edges which were not boronized (at least supposed to). With SMAW 7018 we had some spider cracks on the welds. Has any body had any experience with weld repair boronized casting? Whats your thoughts on 308/309 butter layer with TIG (less heat input and more softer/forgiving) and then fill with 7018 stick?
Your prompt input would be much appreciated!
Thanks.

Apply a 1/8" thick butter layer of Inconel 82 in the event not all of the boronized layer has been removed. Finish with 7018. Preheat to 250 deg F.

We do have ERNiCrFe-7 (Inco 152) and ENiCrFe-3 (Inco 182) though.
